Not The Dog !!

(09-29) 18:08 PDT Jeannette, Pa. (AP) --
The financial situation is so bad in one western Pennsylvania city that even its police dog has been laid off. Jeannette City Council on Tuesday voted to lay off nine workers of the city's 47 workers effective Oct. 5. They include three of the city's 12 police, including Officer Justin Scalzo who handles the city's drug-sniffing dog, Wando.
Police Chief Brad Shepler said the layoffs come at a time when the city is seeing a boom in drug trafficking. Shepler's department is also losing its two meter maids and a secretary.
The other layoffs involved trash collectors and public works employees.
The city has a projected $440,000 budget shortfall. Some of the workers could be called back if finances improve.

Don't Tase me Bro !!

(09-25) 09:38 PDT Cheyenne, Wyo. (AP) --
A Cheyenne man who doused himself with white latex paint in hopes of avoiding a police Taser was hit with the stun gun anyway.
The Taser chase happened Sept. 16, when Cheyenne police went to Brian Mattert's house on a domestic violence call. The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports that when police arrived, Mattert thought they'd use a Taser on him, so he hastily covered himself in paint and told officers that if they shot him with the stun gun, he'd die.
Officers told him the paint wouldn't affect the Taser's capability. According to police, Mattert scuffled with officers and was hit with a Taser twice before officers handcuffed him.
He faces several criminal charges. Police say the officers' uniforms had to be cleaned.

Vegetable Power!!!

(09-23) 09:08 PDT Frenchtown, Mont. (AP) --
Police say a Montana woman used an unlikely weapon to fend off a charging bear — a zucchini.
Missoula County Sheriff's Lt. Rich Maricelli says a 200-pound black bear attacked the woman's 12-year-old collie just after midnight Wednesday on the back porch of her home about 15 miles west of Missoula.
When the woman, whom police did not name, screamed to draw the bear's attention, it charged her and swiped at her leg.
Maricelli says the woman jumped back into the doorway and reached for the nearest object on her kitchen counter — a 12-inch zucchini from her garden.
The woman flung the vegetable at the bear, striking it on top of the head and causing it to flee.
Maricelli says the woman did not need medical attention. Wildlife officials were trying to locate the bear on Thursday.
